The two-day California Bar Examination is administered twice a year, in February and July. The Bar Examination is composed of three parts: five one-hour essay questions, one ninety-minutes performance test question, and the Multistate Bar Examination. Exam questions may involve issues from any of the following thirteen subjects: Business Associations, Criminal Law and Procedure, Remedies, Civil Procedure, Evidence, Torts, Community Property, Professional Responsibility, Trusts, Constitutional Law, Real Property, Wills and Succession, and Contracts. A comprehensive bar exam preparation course is an absolute necessity for success, especially for first-time bar takers. First-time takers are recommended to choose either THEMIS, BAR/BRI, or KAPLAN/PMBR for comprehensive review, supplemented by the PMBR system for MBE preparation.
