Navigating the Library: Computer Labs and Wifi

Computer Labs

Law Library Computer Labs:

There is one computer lab in the library, on the basement level. The lab is open during library hours and is available for the use of law students only. You may be asked to show your student ID while using the labs. No log-in is required to use the computers. Please note that no drinks are allowed in the computer labs.  

Each computer is equipped with common software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

4th Floor University Computer Lab:

In addition to the two Law Library computer labs, law students may also use the computer lab on the 4th floor of the University, room 4218. You must show your student ID to use this lab. It is open Monday through Friday from 8am-10pm and Saturday/Sunday from 10am-6pm. This lab has 45 PCs, printers, a copy/print card dispenser, and a scanning station. Scanning is free. There are no photocopy machines in this lab. Printing works the same as in the Law Library computer labs.

Wireless Network & Help

Wireless Network:

We have a wireless network in the Law Library for laptop & mobile device internet access. Laptops must have a wireless card (std.: 802.11b) and be registered. Register your wireless card through GGU4U at www.ggu.edu/. An approved wireless PCMCIA card is available at the Bookstore, if your laptop does not have built-in wireless. Recommended brands:

  • D-Link, Netgear, 3Com, Intel
  • Apple Airport Card (for Mac users only)

To connect your device to the GGU WiFi network, follow these instructions:

1. From your laptop or mobile device, browse for the wireless network "GGU" and connect to it according to the instructions specific to your device.

2. Depending on your device, you be promted for either an SSID or a network key. Enter: newGGUwireless (Note: this password is case-sensitive.)

3. Open a web browser and a login page should automatically load. Read the "Wireless Access Policy" paragraph on the page and click on the check box to indicate that you agree to the policy. Use your GGU4YOU username and password to authenticate.

Guest Wireless Network:

Visitors should contact the Help Desk to a request a guest login. This should be done about a week in advance of your visit. In alternative, ask a librarian for assistance.

Help Desk:  

For technical support with wireless, please contact the Help Desk at 415-442-7070 or help@ggu.edu. The Help Desk is located on the 4th floor of the University, room 4210. Their hours are Monday through Thursday 8am-6pm and Fridays 8am-5pm.


Miscellaneous

Laptop Access-Classrooms:

Power for laptop computers is provided at every desk in most classrooms. Several classrooms are also equipped with data ports for internet access. Wireless is available in some classrooms.

Study Carrels and Tables:

Most of the study carrels and some of the tables in the Law Library are equipped with power outlets and are wired for laptop internet access. Laptops must have an Ethernet connection and a CAT 5 cable, which is available at the GGU Book Store, but may also be purchased from any other computer supply retailer.

Online Catalog Computer Terminals:

Outside of the computer labs, on all three floors of the Law Library, there are computer terminals available for the purpose of accessing the Golden Gate University Libraries Online Catalog (GOLDPAC) and the internet. The catalog searches both the Law Library and the University Library collections. You can search the system by title, author, subject, or keyword. Additionally, the online catalog can connect you to our online databases and the index to legal periodical articles. These computers can also connect you to the online catalogs of other libraries. Please ask a librarian if you need assistance with the online catalog. Printing is not available from these terminals.
