Database Troubleshooting Guide: PDF Problems

This guide identifies and provides solutions to common database access problems including login and browser specific issues.

PDF Troubleshooting Tips

If you have problems viewing or printing PDF files available within any of the Business Library's databases, try some of the following suggestions.

Issue: My web browser does not display a PDF that's available from one of the library's databases.

Suggestions: Try one or more of the following:

  1. Access the PDF from a different web browser or computer.
  2. Download (or save) a copy of the PDF to your computer and open it directly from Acrobat Reader rather than from within the web browser.
  3. Temporarily disable any anti-virus software on your computer to see if it is interfering with the PDF download.
  4. Update your copy of Acrobat:
    1. Launch Acrobat Reader
    2. Click the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    3. Follow the onscreen directions if updates are available

Issue: I am unable to print a PDF; I get garbage (or only one page) when I try to print.

Suggestion: Try turning on the Adobe Reader "print as image" feature:

  1. Download (or save) a copy of the PDF to your computer.
  2. Launch Acrobat Reader.
  3. Open the PDF file.
  4. From the File menu, choose Print, and then click Advanced.
  5. Select Print As Image.
  6. Click OK to close the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and then click OK again.
