If none of the information in this guide resolves your problem, please contact the University Library Reference Desk:

Please be sure to include the following information:

  • Browser name & version
  • Name of database/resource,
  • Specific steps taken,
  • Specific error messages seen,
  • Time & date of error,
  • Your location (home, work, etc.).

Internet Explorer

When accessing a GGU database that requires a secure connection, Internet Explorer 7 may display an error and deny access to the site. To access the database, you must add a security exception for the site to Internet Explorer.

The following GGU databases/services use secure connections:

  • Economist Intelligence Unit
  • RefWorks
  • Lexis-Nexis
  • Ebrary (when using the "sign in" feature to access a personalized bookshelf)

To fix the problem, do the following when the error occurs with Internet Explorer 7:

  1. Click Continue to this website (not recommended).

  2. A red Address Bar and a certificate warning appear.

  3. Click the Certificate Error button to open the information window.
  4. Click View Certificates, and then click Install Certificate.
  5. On the warning message that appears, click Yes to install the certificate.

Note: If your computer has Windows Vista installed, it may be necessary to first exit Internet Explorer, right-click the Internet Explorer icon, and select Run as Administrator before performing the above steps.
